Georgia and John

Georgia’s parents referred her to Kids Inspire after her anxiety saw her begin to refuse school.

An initial assessment identified that Georgia struggled with peer relationships and low self-esteem. She often experienced panic attacks which meant that attending school was becoming an increasing challenge.

Alongside 1:1 art therapy for Georgia, her father, John, was offered psycho educational support to help him to understand and help his daughter through a difficult period.

The sessions between John and his therapist focused on:

-        the use of positive language and focus on strengths; what has gone well rather than not so well

-        ways to empathise so Georgia felt understood and her feelings were acknowledged

-        parenting styles; what works for one child may not work for Georgia, and how to adapt and change

-        understanding how his own anxiety is triggered impacting on his parenting style and how he manages difficult situations

-        ways to increase Georgia’s self-esteem and sense of self worth.

John’s therapist said: “His confidence has improved in relation to understanding Georgia’s emotions. He has been able to confidently use positive language with his child which has often turned a negative situation into a positive. John has made good progress in being able to manage his own anxiety to remain calm and supportive for his child.”

John himself said he found the session’s “incredibly supportive” and shared that he feels able to support Georgia more effectively.
