Stage starlet gets hands dirty at outdoor Lunch Club

Ruthie Henshall – Patron of Kids Inspire – visited headquarters this week to take part in a dedicated outdoor Lunch Club with children from the local community.

An accomplished actress, Ms Henshall is aware of the importance of involving children in the arts as a means of expression. Ruthie dug deep in the hands-on-learning experience and helped 25 children to create dream catchers, bows and arrows, and to bug hunt.

This is one of many outdoor learning activities from the ‘Kids who lunch club’ that the Chelmsford based charity have hosted. Den building, gardening, bug hunting and creativity with natural resources have been a focus for the team that also prepare balanced and healthy meals for attendees as a part of the day.

Sue Bell, CEO and Founder of Kids Inspire commented: “The session this week is just one of many outdoor learning experiences we plan. We have seen the children attending play freely, be creative, explore and investigate, problem solve and relax in a calm outdoor space.

Sue continued: “We wholeheartedly thank Ruthie for her continued support of Kids Inspire, and we look forward to her next visit.”

Patron of Kids Inspire since 2015, Ms Henshall said: “I am honoured and delighted to be patron of Kids Inspire.  Every child should have the chance to find the gifts they all possess no matter what their circumstances.  This incredible charity doesn’t give up on the children that have been excluded.  They are our future, let’s give them the chance to have one they deserve.”

Ms Henshall’s visit left many children feeling inspired, and one even said: “Seeing Ruthie today has been excellent – she is a famous actress, yet she still wanted to get involved in what we were doing.”

The ‘Kids who Lunch Club’ is run during every school holiday and is a part of outreach activities that Kids Inspire offer to the local community. Run over three days each week, the club varies it’s offering taking into consideration the promotion of outdoor learning with a healthy lunch.
