Emotional trauma training

Today, after all children have left a local school in the Basildon area, our Clinical team will be delivering level one of our first ever emotional trauma training.

Sue Bell and Dimitra Theodoropoulou, in their roles as experienced psychotherapists, will be presenting to 30 teaching staff guiding them through the unpredictability of traumatic life events and the ensuing impact on young people and children.

An understanding of the attachment theory and how it might apply in the classroom, as well as a detailed understanding of trauma will be on the agenda for the teachers – often referred to as ‘front line’ in the lives of our children.

“Attachment is a deep and enduring emotional bond that connects one person to another across time and space.” Ainsworth, 1973; Bowlby, 1969

Level one of the course will focus on training attendees to:

  • understand the subject of emotional trauma and the potential impact on teaching and learning

  • understand about the behaviour of a child that has concerned a teacher

  • know how to offer support for a child who may have experienced emotional trauma.

Dates for the next emotional trauma training are yet to be set, but already we have received an expression of interest from a further 50 schools across Essex. All interested to receive the Level 1 training, which will be coordinated and delivered in this academic year.

We have been amazed by the passionate response we have received from so many schools, and are looking forward to sharing what we know to positively influence and support the emotional and mental wellbeing of our younger generation.
