No cost Trauma Informed Practice training open to all community groups working with children

Youth focused community groups are invited to attend online training at no cost with experienced Child and Adolescent Psychotherapists, who are qualified Attachment and Trauma Resolution Specialists.

We have received funding to deliver Level 1 of an established three-part Trauma Informed Practice training free of charge to anyone who supports or works with children and young people.

The online training will enable adults to recognise behaviours in children and young people who have been impacted by traumatic experiences. They will learn to spot triggers that indicate that a child is responding from their survival brain (fight, flight, freeze, fawn) and will be introduced to the tools of stabilisation that reduce the symptoms of trauma and improve their capacity for learning, joy, resilience, self-regulation and social relationships.

When we are aware of what may lie behind the behaviour of our young people, our responses tend to be less reactive and more supportive.

Participants are then able to go on and complete Level 2 and 3 to deepen their Trauma Informed Practice training experience, building upon the information and skills developed in Level 1.

Level 2 enables participants to build a toolbox of interventions that will establish self-regulation in order that co-regulation may take place. Level 3 provides a space to explore more complex mental health issues and apply the tools of stabilisation with specific children.

Imagine how much healthier our communities would be if we all practised self-regulation and had some basic skills to support each other at times of crisis?

This training is possible thanks to funding from the National Lottery Community Fund, as part of a ‘Reaching Communities’ grant to continue specialist youth trauma resolution work within the wider Essex community.

A teacher who attended a previous Trauma Informed Practice training, said:

“During the training, I gained the knowledge and understanding of how to de-escalate trauma symptoms and it allowed me the time and space I needed to reflect on my own emotional response to trauma.”

Sue Bell OBE, Kids Inspire’s CEO and Clinical Director said:

“The past two years have seen an increase in trauma symptoms for many children and young people. ‘Trauma is anything that is too much, too fast, too soon for the nervous system.’ For the majority, this has been their experience of the pandemic. This specialist foundation training will give attendees the tools to create calmer, safer environments for the children and young people they support.”

Free tickets are available for the next Level 1 training on Tuesday 7 September here
