Discover our unique family-centred project - CREW

CREW – Communication, Relationships, Emotional Wellbeing - is a family-centred unique project, focused on group intervention. It aims to improve emotional wellbeing and to build more positive relationships at home.

Our CREW events and focus groups consist of a parent/carer group and a child group running separately but at the same time at the same venue with different facilitators. The focus is on the parenting role, including practical strategies of ways to respond to their child’s issues with an opportunity to learn more about why children act the way they do.

Our experience tells us that children’s emotional wellbeing is at its best when their parents also feel well and that in turn children’s behaviour settles and improves as a result.

“We recognise that you as the parents are the most important people to help your children with their difficulties
This group will provide you with the space, tools and education to help you make the support you already provide, more effective.
This course also mirrors the work your children are doing in the same building separately.”

What is our CREW Project?

The group will consist of children and young people usually aged between 7-12 years old and their families who are at an educational, social and/or economic disadvantage; often resulting from shock/ developmental trauma or emerging mental health issues. These experiences/ disorders lead to emotional and behavioural difficulties, including self-harm, substance abuse, risk-taking, truancy, anxiety, depression and aggression. As a result, young people struggle to engage with their education, families and communities, which in turn prevents them from reaching their full potential

The intensive session consists of two groups, one for the parent/carers and one for the children, running separately at the same time at Hargrave House, Great Baddow. These can be either one-off day events, or a scheduled weekly group, typically over the school holidays to support and help families.

Parent/carer Focus Group

The parent/carer group focuses on the parental role, including practical strategies of ways to respond to a child’s issues with an opportunity to learn more about why children act the way they do.

It is also an opportunity for parents to share their experiences with other parents and gain support from others in a similar situation.

Children Focus Group

The Children’s Group focuses on helping them better understand their issues, improves communication, relationships and emotional wellbeing.  The group is run by experienced Kids Inspire Therapists.  The small groups will involve lots of activities with other children of a similar age.

This therapeutic intervention will help to give useful strategies to young people and their families which will allow them to build resilience, self-awareness and to work on essential relationship building. In return, this will empower them to make more positive long-term life choices.

What to expect within the CREW Parenting Group - The Child Brain Concept by Dr Dan Siegal

What To Expect Within Our CREW Project?

Parent/carers and children who are referred to our CREW project can expect a safe environment to discuss and share their experiences and challenges in a confidential and calm space. Group work can be more beneficial vs 1-2-1 therapy as parents can share and discuss their learnt experiences with others, whilst children can build and work on any social anxiety they may face.

The Parent/carer groups will work on attachment theory, how the child brain works, practical advice and exercises to cope with everyday challenges. The Child group may have more physical activities to express emotions, such as mask painting or creating body maps, or even taking part in parachute style games. All groups are run by our expert professional clinical team with years of experience, with an opportunity to meet back together, both parent and children at lunchtime.

Our CREW projects have already proven beneficial to children to help build peer friendships and overcome social anxiety.

How To Access Our CREW Project & Parenting Groups

Our CREW project scheme runs on a referral basis as per all our clinical services and therapies. Both of these groups are allocated to after an assessment process and require an initial referral for the child to Kids Inspire.
