How you can ‘Wear Your Wellbeing’ this September with Kids Inspire
Our annual ‘Wellbeing Day’ takes place on Friday 23 September, inviting everyone to come together to talk about what they do to look after their wellbeing. Kids Inspire has been holding our wellbeing awareness activities since 2019 to help shine a spotlight on the importance of looking after our wellbeing to protect our own mental health and that of our family.
One of the easiest ways to take part in our Wellbeing Day this year is to simply Wear your Wellbeing.
This means wearing an outfit of the colour that reflects your mood that day. So either wear them to work or school (with permission), or simply pop on your PJs or your favourite yoga pants to show how you like to take time out for yourself and donate £2 to Kids Inspire. Taking a day out of your busy schedule and hectic life can help you and your family regulate emotions, create a sense of fun and explore how you feel by wearing your wellbeing.
What colour mood are you in?
We all have our favourite colours, each with its own individual meanings or associated expressions. For example, the colour blue can be associated with stability and calmness in our adult lives. However, some people associate blue with clear skies, which, when we are children, is a positive thing as it reminds us of playing outside.
It has been shown that colours can significantly affect our moods and how other people respond to us; they can even change our heart rates!
Other ways you can celebrate Wellbeing Day
If dressing up in the colour of your choice isn’t for you, there are many other ways and exercises you can take part in from the comfort of your home. We all know what it’s like to feel stressed or overwhelmed, so doing these activities or being mindful of our wellbeing can help us stay mentally healthy.
Magic Moments
Grab a box or an envelope and decorate it. Each day, write down a positive experience or memory you have had that day or that week and add it to the container. Then, whenever you are feeling down, you can open your "Magic Moments" and remind yourself of your own positivity for a little boost.
Mindfulness Exercises
Sitting on a chair, take off your shoes, close your eyes and allow your feet to make a connection to the ground. Then gently shift your weight forward, through centre to back, letting the arms rest gently on the thighs. Gently change the direction of the sway side to side. Notice how you are breathing, how you are connected to the chair and the temperature of your feet, pressing your heels, little toe and big toe equally into the floor. You should take some deep breaths in and out and then open your eyes.
Mindful Nature Walk
Head out on a nature walk to reconnect with yourself, your body and release any anxiety and tension. Set a mission, before the walk, of what you are going to look for. This could be things that are red, flowers, different shaped leaves or water. If you have access to a device with a camera, take some images from your walk to look back on or create some art with. This is a great way to engage creatively with the wonderful energy of nature
If any of these ideas aren’t for you, why not take a look this activity pack which is full of other inspiration!
