Kids Inspire volunteers crowned as Coronation Champions!

We are thrilled that two of our volunteers have this week been crowned Coronation Champions for the time they give to improve children’s mental health and more!

Having nominated seven of our amazing volunteers, and with one of our Trustees being nominated separately, we are extremely proud of all that our volunteers do for young people’s mental health.

Yvonne Spence was crowned a Coronation Champion for the time she dedicates to charitable work. She is a valued Kids Inspire Trustee and does so much more besides. Thanks to Nick Alston for nominating Yvonne. Nick was previously High Sherrif of Essex and does a lot more within the community besides undertaking the High Sheriff role. He is a valued supporter of Kids Inspire and we are grateful for his recognition of Yvonne.

Nick said: “I am simply delighted that Yvonne has been selected as one of the 500 Coronation Champions. She has been recognised for a lifetime of volunteering for many different organisations, including Kids inspire.”

Alongside Yvonne, Martyn Mead volunteers with Kids Inspire, as well as with other charities, and has been recognised for his contribution and also crowned a Coronation Champion. Martyn impressed judges with his ongoing volunteer work for the benefit of young people. Since the pandemic Martyn has volunteered weekly in the extensive Kids Inspire gardens and, later was inspired to train to be a volunteer mentor to young mentees – he takes this role seriously and has already mentored two young people who have been struggling with their emotional wellbeing.

Commenting on becoming a Coronation Champion, Martyn said: “I am privileged to have been recognised by this special award, and even more so because I do what I do for young people, not for any other reason. I want to give to them in the same way that a mentor did for me when I was young – that experience changed my life for the better, and I hope that what I do now will offer a young person opportunity in a similar way.”

Yesterday, the country's Coronation Champions visited Buckingham Palace for a delightful Garden Party. Amongst those celebrating was our very own Martyn. Trustee, Yvonne, will be a welcomed guest at the Coronation Concert this Sunday.

The Coronation Champions Awards, launched by Royal Voluntary Service and supported by Her Majesty The Queen Consort, is all about celebrating the work of extraordinary volunteers across the UK. A total of 500 volunteers have been selected as Coronation Champions and will receive an official Coronation Champions pin badge, a signed certificate from Their Majesties, and were invited to one of the Coronation Celebrations, such as the Windsor Castle Coronation Concert or a Coronation Garden Party.” - The Royal Voluntary Service

Congratulations all and we hope you enjoy your celebrations.
