B&Q volunteer at Hargrave House!

Not long ago, when the summer sun was high in the sky, colleagues from local B&Q stores gifted their valuable time to transforming the gardens at Hargrave House…

Colleagues from a number of local B&Q stores joined together to transform the garden of the Kids Inspire centre in Great Baddow into a calm, peaceful and welcoming space for service users. The garden makeover is one of 50 new good home community projects being supported by colleagues nationwide to mark B&Q’s 50th anniversary.

Colleagues from local B&Q stores arrived at Kids Inspire new premises – donning their signature orange aprons – ready to transform the overgrown and unused outdoor area into a safe and calm outdoor therapy space. The team repainted the fences, re-landscaped the garden and brought in new plants and pots to create a space for families to spend some quiet time together.

Louise McConnell, Volunteer Support Officer, from Kids Inspire said: “We are overwhelmed with the results of the B&Q makeover, it makes such a difference to children and their families to have somewhere calm and tranquil to go together while they’re going through difficult times. It would have taken us at least a year to transform the garden in this way and the B&Q team has done it in a day! The team brought both their home improvement skills and high spirits which made the whole experience enjoyable for all. Thank you.”

Mike Moughton, Unit Manager at B&Q Fakenham, said: “Kids Inspire provides such an important service for young people in our local community and the B&Q team were honoured to help in any way they could. For 50 years B&Q has played an integral part of our communities’ home improvement needs, and in this very special year, we’re also committing to 50 good home community projects to support local charity initiatives. We’re proud to be able to use our skills to create a good home away from home for those in our community that are most in need.’

The Kids Inspire project is one of 50 local community projects being supported by B&Q in 2019 to help mark its 50th anniversary.

Thank you B&Q!
